Last month I attended a event presented by Mojo Disco entitled "Paint & Poetry". (Check out post HERE)

I only had good things to say and for the second round of Paint & Poetry, my opinions did not change. If anything the second round was even better. So much more people came out causing a full room. Even the staircase was fully occupied. Everyone who stepped up and showcased a poem or song did their thing. Oh how much I love the roaming the internet, clicking & stumbling upon such amazing information, people, events, and best of all, Music. Visiting one of my favorite blogs, the first song that began to play on their playlist was a song by this amazing musical duo ::M∆DE:IN:HEIGHTS:: entitled Marguerite. Hearing one great song I had to check out more of their stuff and disappointed, I was not. ::M∆DE:IN:HEIGHTS:: music with instrumentals alone is just beautiful and intriguing. This music is the kind of music that makes me smile when things in my life isn't going to best but can take me away from all negative thoughts.

KleinFeld Bridal Presents Bridal Contest Winners

A few weeks ago my fashion design class and I was presented with a bridal design contest and an amazing opportunity by our fashion design teacher and Mara Urshel the president and owner of the famous bridal store Kleinfeld, home of TLC's TV show Say Yes to the Dress. We were instructed to design the dress of the future and five winners would be chosen. The day the winners were to be announced arrived and my classmates and I were anxious and nervous as ever. I wanted to win so badly but sadly I didn't, but 4 out of five of the winners I sit at the same table with everyday in class which was actually a very funny and odd turnout. I haven't shared a lot of things that I have created, here on GoldenSense a part from my post A Queen. So I decided to share this photograph that I shot a few weeks ago while in the process of finishing my artwork for Parsons The New School "Parsons Challenge." Hopefully I get an acceptance letter because I've been dying to go to that school since my middle school days. Can Jason Wu do greater? I had the pleasure of being in the presence of Jason Wu to hear him speak at Teen Vogue Fashion U back in October. I just got home from the Academy of Art University fashion show and is just NYFW Love drunk at the moment, so I paid a visit to Style.com to check out shows that I did not have the chance to see and I came across Wu's Ready To Wear Collection. I LOVE this collection so much, I want to wear everything so badly. I'm a sucker for collars and Jason Wu brought collars to life with this collection. The collection was very militaristic, and had a menswear flare for the females, It's also clear that Wu was inspired his Chinese / Taiwanese culture.

BK College Slam Team Open Mic

On Feb 2nd I had the pleasure of attending another Poetry event presented by The Brooklyn College Slam Team with special guest Marshall Soulful Jones who has been featured here on GoldenSense before as the Host of RipMC's Rap sessions. Every member of the Brooklyn Slam Team did amazing, poet Joel nearly made me cry with his poem on the topic of Cancer. But, when Marshall stepped on the stage he shut it down, I have yet to witness someone be able to capture an audience so intensely, the amount of emotion that you feel and hear Marshall give out is all honesty and just shows how he has mastered his art. Being a NYC Public School kid you get the luxury of missing school during "regents week." Last week on Wednesday while on line for a job interview in Soho I was standing behind a female with such great style. A few long minutes waiting on line later and a sparked up conversation between her and I, after our interview I asked for her photograph to feature here on GoldenSense. I was approached by the lady behind BlackFashion.tumblr.com Javanell, expressing her interest in featuring me as Fashionista of the week. I was so honored and surprised because I've been a follower of BlackFashion since Ive been a member of tumblr and been one of the many who submitted photographs of my looks to the site. So, this isn't my first feature on BlackFashion but this one means the most. It hasn't really crossed my mind that I am being noticed on this site because theres just so many faces that are featured daily. (BlackFashion) What were your goal for creating sablagoldensense?

My initial goal for my blog sablagoldensense.blogspot.com was for it to be a fashion blog because around the time I was a huge reader of many fashion bloggers such as Karen of www.wheredidugetthat.com, and Travis Gumbs & Joshua Kissi of www.StreetEtiquette.com. But over time as GoldenSense progressed as well as I, I realized Im not just about Fashion, Im about music, poetry, art, etc also. So, that’s what I wanted to showcase and that’s exactly what I began to do.

Who inspired your style most in 2011?

Menswear inspired my style in 2011 but not more than my own personal creativity and taste. I don’t want to wear something that makes someone say “this look like something such & such would wear,” I want it to be like “This look like something Sabla` would wear.”

How would you describe your personal style?

Ahh! This question has always been a tough one for me. I guess I will describe my style as eclectic, comfortable, creative, and a bit obnoxious on occasions.

Who are your favorite designers?

My favorite designers are Carly Cushnie & Michelle Ochs of Cushnie Et Ochs and of course Alexander McQueen because he was more than a designer, he was an artistic GENIUS. The stuff he came up with was beyond spectacular and breath taking.

Favorite/Least Favorite current Fashion Trend?

I Love the whole ombre & color blocking trend. I dislike the patriotic trend of sporting the American flag everywhere especially if you’re not even patriotic.

If you could what trend from the last 2 decade would you like to bring back?

Well, I hate everything that was trending in the early 2000’s but the 90’s I feel everything amazing has been brought back or have been attempted to be brought back. I’m going to get a bit crazy and say reeboks, I want to see them make a comeback again and how they will throw their brand mainstream again. Maybe they should partner up with Jeremy Scott.

Does your everyday life play a role in the way you dress?

Yes it does. It goes with how Im feeling that day or how much time I have. Plus going to a very creative school I can get away with some “obnoxious” looks without being patronized about it.

Besides blogging school and etc. Do you have any projects you are working on?

It may not be considered a project but Im an athlete, Im captain of the Softball & Track Team, and co-captain of the Volleyball Team. Im focused on winning medals and plaques this year so Im training hard. But to get back to Fashion, I am working on a collection with a very good friend of mine.

When you hear the term "BlackFashion" What comes to mind?

I think of Black culture being conveyed through Style & Fashion in an influential, powerful way. When I hear Black I think of Power, when I hear Fashion I think of Influence. Black Fashion is Powerful Influence.

If I had the chance to go back in time as the person I am today and speak to the person I was before, it would be such a satisfying and emotional moment for me. The best thing about getting older is looking back to see the progression that you've made, if it's all positive of course. 4 years has been a big transformation and a self progressive journey. At only 17 years old, the awareness, and wise attitude of mine surprises others and honestly surprises myself because not many my age outlook and mindset is like mine. . . . . . .

Lately I've been feeling such a mixture of feelings that just leaves me to feel scattered.
Lost, confused, betrayed, heartbroken, dissatisfied, disappointed, despondent, lazy, unorganized, etc. Yes those are probably all the most negative feelings that I'm enduring but I am happy and satisfied with all that I'm going through right now, even kind of satisfied with all the negative because I know it's all but a learning experience that helps me EVOLVE. I need to overcome all these negative spirits in my life because its taking a toll on all that I use to care about, especially School. Its my senior year in High School and its said to be the best year of your high school life... um I don't think so. It's almost about to be considered the worst academically. I just look to keep my head up and stare ahead because there's nothing that will discourage me at this point to get where I need to go in life, bumps in the road happen and I'm enduring a huge one at this point but when you fall you get right back up, one step at a time. I tend to try and skip steps but this is the time where Im going to take my time and progress. - sabla`

So I must state a congrats to Phony Ppl and all of their accomplishments especially dropping their first album, Phonyland that they've been working on for three years now. If you're not familiar with PhonyPpl you need to become familiarized. The 9 Brooklyn natives are singers, rappers, musicians, and producers whose infectious sound is unlike any others in the game. Their compelling sound can sit with Jazz, Hip-Hop, R&B, Soul, Funk and more but still flow cohesively. The phonies sit their music in their own genre as Brooklyn Soul and I can't help to feel that's not anymore of a perfect way to put it. These guys are extremely talented, the day their music hits mainstream, the ears of the world will be blessed with Feel Good Music.

The day after their album debut 5 of 9 of the phonies, front man Dymez, Elbee Thrie, Sheriff PJ, MaffYuu, and Aja Grant performed at the Highline Ballroom in NYC putting on a energetic show performing most of my favorite tracks so I was snapping pics while dancing next to my friends Bryant & Aliyah. -sabla`

RipMC's Rap Session 2, Brooklyn NY

RipMC back in November started up this monthly event called "The Rap Session," a night for young artist & intellectuals to come together to participate in an open discussion and an open mic to showcase talent. I'm a bit late with this post but these are photos from the second Rap Session held in December. This Rap Session was a announced a bit under short notice but the turn out was very good and it left Rip "Pleasantly surprised." I manged to get a lot of my friends to come out and enjoy the night and even perform, five of them did in fact. I had a extremely stressful day that day and ending it with the Rap Session was all I could ask for. I encourage you to come out to the next Rap Session, its a great learning experience. "I named Carvens my favorite poet based off of one poem I heard him spit live, at my friend Sean's open mic back in November of 2010. It was the first time I ever even seen or heard him recite a poem and by the end of his poem I considered him, if not the best poet of our time, he damn sure is in my head. Its been a year and some change and Carvens is still my top favorite poet. His delivery, personality, passion, pure honesty, word play, and presence is why he is an incredible spoken word artist. The way he presents the natural grit of his deepest emotions will send chills down your spine and bring tears to your eyes. I cried while at this show on Friday due to his poem "Beauty Part 3." I wanted to make the weeping noise, but I held back. haha. I can say so much more about the way his words make me feel but then this portion of the post can probably go on forever. Oh my gosh, how can I forget to mention the fact that he can sing, his voice is so angelic and beautiful."

2012 New Beginnings: 1st Video I Created.

Well, Happy New Year everyone.

The title of this post is sort of reminiscent of the 1st post I ever did here on GoldenSense back in March because it was also titled "New Beginnings." For a while Ive been wanting to get my hand into creating videos and honestly just for the editing aspect of it all, I want to extend my creativity into something a bit different but still using a camera to see what more I am capable of making. I shot this visual back in November just to test out the quality of the camera and I decided just recently to use the footage to explore how it will come out if I "legit" edit the video. Hope you watched and enjoyed the video. I feel it has a very deep and accurate message. I'm going to resist from making this post long, so anyways. Growing up, I have witnessed the cycle, the hype, the passion, and the arguments over the Air Jordan craze. I know everything I'm about to say isn't false. These sneakers represents being a part of a movement, well that's what "Sneakerheads" think for the most part. For the majority it's about being cool, fitting in, to appear as if you make so much money because not everyone can manage to spend $150 on every new pair of Jordans that's released, that's why people flaunt what they have on. On December 22nd at midnight the Jordan Concord 11's hit stores and with the Internet being the first thing for people to hit up, it's why I have knowledge of all of this, because I never jumped on the van wagon of the sneaker hype. The amount of tweets, and Facebook post that went up was insane. There were people posting pictures of them standing and camping on line outside of footlocker, people expressing excitement about their orders, and people saying how they can't wait to get them. There was even a girl who made a false statement about her boyfriend getting her these famous sneakers and based off the photograph of the supposed given sneakers, they were fake! Then, there were the criticizers and teasers (me). All of this madness was entertaining but I couldn't help but really notice how sad this Jordan story is. I researched the Jordan Concords and I know the history of them and why they're so important to some people, so I'm not ignorant. But there's people who are allowing these sneakers to define who they are through the definition of someone else and that person is Michael Jordan, he is the only reason why these sneakers have such high value to people and much thanks to a great marketing team. Marketers are one of the worlds best brainwashers, they do so well with making you think you should have something when in reality you don't need it because you will be fine without it regardless. I guess my biggest issue is what these sneakers have become. It became a contest about money and who can get them first, people's lives were lost over a pair of J's, kids are being robbed, there's kids crying to themselves wishing they can have them, stealing just to have them, rents aren't being paid just to have these sneakers. I've been in people houses who barely have anything in their refrigerator and have a terribly kept home yet every time a new pair of J's come out, they're walking around with them on. I just do not understand how blind people have became just to consume sneakers, or its better to say that the floating image these sneakers portray has consumed them. In all actuality these are just shoes. so much for avoiding this post from being long.

I wasn't familiar with Lee "Scratch" Perry before watching this video by made-blog.com, I just love to indulge in their Visions of Visionaries series. While on tumblr a few months ago a photograph of Perry popped up on my dashboard and there was no telling of who he was, so I was bummed about that because his style is amazing. Today while on looking surfing through the Visions of Visionaries series I seen the video still of him and got excited to watch and learn about this man and just excited to have learned his name. I love how in tune he is with himself and his apparent spiritual connection. This man is an icon and living legend I did not know about and Im satisfied to have knowledge of him now. I'm driven to learn more about him, just by watching this interview he has inspired me. -sabla`

My room is my cave of self manifestation. It's a representation of my growth and maturity yet holds this stamp and influence of my past. All honesty and truth lies in there, my walls hear my thoughts, see my tears, witness me grow and create. My room is my canvas, it's where all the creative magic goes down, everything I create comes out better when it's done in my place of solidity. My room is a forever a work in progress as well as myself, I can't wait for what the future holds.

Recently I was feeling like something was missing from my room and I came to realize that there was no token of motivation present. I always wanted to post up something that motivates me everday and finally with a gold can of spray paint I did just that. It's not the most perfectly written thing but right at the top of this huge black canvas in my room I painted the word "AMBITION." It's something I have a lot of and always had. I guess I chose the word ambition to paint up there to remind me of why I started and a reminder of how I'm going to end in anything I do, Ambitious.

Not to be apart of the new insanely cliche of the use of the word Ambition I must associate Wale with this post. Because his poem "Ambitious Girl" is a part of my Top 25 played songs on Itunes. So on that note, pause the sidebar music video and click play.

Golden Rant Session vol. II "CONFORMITY"

Initially I would start this off by saying "we live in a society..." but I much rather began by saying we live in a world where no matter what society we're placed in, a dosage of conformity is constantly in the works in multiple versions. I must first state that conformity to a degree is highly necessary for order, structure and stability to manage humans for the better and their own protection. But that's not the type of conformity I'm feeling deep wrath for. Society is the typical "High School story." You must fit in to avoid scrutiny no matter how difficult and painful it becomes to maintain. I'm so sick of this imaginary painted box I'm being forced in by society's brainwashed products of people. I do not want to behave according to the "socially accepted" standards, I refuse. I refuse to dismiss everything that I am in order to conform into what everyone else wants me to be, because it's what's "right". Well, Its what's wrong to me. It's wrong to not think for yourself or make decisions for yourself. Minds are polluted with so much outside influence that its tarnishing the original content of the mind's state. The times in my life where I've been scrutinized for asking questions, or taking defense for something I do not believe in It appalls me. I do not want to shut up and just let things be, I don't look to change others minds I just look to be heard and understood. The creative are usually the ones who go against conformity because the creative look to break down the barriers and wipe away the imaginary painted boxes because we think outside of the box and beyond. There are no barricades to what can be thought. Creativity is the absence of fear and I am fearless of the thoughts and opinions of others because the only thoughts and opinions that has an effect on where I'm standing and where I'm breathing is my own. I'm not looking to act and look like you. I'm looking to be ME. -sabla`

Many was stricken including myself by Jesse's track Light to Dark off his most recent EP, Way of a Wayfarer that you should go and download. Joshua Kissi of Street Etiquette collaborated with Jesse to test out his director skills by creating a visual for the song. Joshua was inspired to start this project with "Light to Dark" because of the "potent lyrics dipped in substance and awareness, accompanied by a cinematic instrumental." Event: KleinFeld Class Tour "Say Yes to the Dress"

Last week my Fashion Design Class and I was granted a trip to the famous bridal flagship store Kleinfeld, where the TLC show "Say Yes to the Dress" is taken place and filmed. I was never the "average girl" who dreamed up her big wedding with the extravagant wedding dress, but being at Kleinfeld surrounded by all the beautiful wedding dresses triggered those thoughts inside me. We toured the whole Kleinfeld building which is bigger than what meets the eye, the store is 35,000 square feet which spreads out over two floors in Manhattan's Chelsea. Our tour was lead by the sweet owner and president of Kleinfeld Bridal, Mara Urshel. The time spent there was incredible and inspiring and it ended well which nearly left me in tears by the surprise that they kept from my class and I. They revealed to us that we will be competing against one another in a wedding dress design contest. The winner of the contest will have their dress design come to life and produced. I WAS EXCITED AND SPAZZING at the same time. I must win! This is an opportunity that has been presented to me so early in my life and I must work hard call it mine. There's a total of 28 bridal selection rooms and 17 private fitting rooms equipped with a personal consultant to make sure your dress is perfect. Each fitting room is something like an office to every consultant with photographs of their loved one, each room has it's own personality. There are event VIP fitting rooms to accommodate large parties and celebrities.

I have to admit the men's section of Kleinfeld Bridal excited me so much, I was the last one to come out. Everything in there was so beautiful.

Almost all the furniture and pieces such as the one above in Kleinfeld is antique or personally designed. The Men's department was filled with so many beautiful antique pieces.

FACT: "Kleinfeld has the largest custom sewing workroom in the tri-state area accommodating more than 90 seamstresses, beaders, pressers, and fitters." You don't see something like this in America often.

I recently purchased The Root's new album "Undun" that was released in early December. I was not disappointed at all by the tracks and as I always do with good newly downloaded music I constantly listen to it. With the combination of amazing instrumentals and Black Thought's rhymes It's easy to loose sight or never gain sight of what is actually being told through those rhymes. Today I discovered the music video / Short film for the Undun Album featuring songs off the album. Tip the Scale, Stomp, Sleep, & One Time. That's when I discovered there was a much more deeper complex story to the UNDUN album.

If I can choose one thing about The Roots that I feel has always kept them relevant and iconic is despite their great music its the fact that they have stayed original and true to who they are and what they want to create. The Roots has never fell into the melting pot of Trends that has manifested in the music industry through time. I am infactuated and I must dive more into the concept of The Undun album. From research what I know currently is The Undun album is a reverse narrative based on a kid named Redford Stephens who goes through pivotal moments in his life between 1990 and 1999. The moments are all due to a bad decision Stephens make which ends tragic.

The Undun Album & Short Film is just not based on Redford Stephens who is a fictional character, but don't let that fool you, Redford Stephens represents millions of young black males living in poverty, living a chosen life that seems like the only sensible one for the moment. All choices aren't easy, don't be quick to judge.

RipMC's Rap Session, Brooklyn NY

Amongst the long list of everything I love, one of them would be the feeling of being surrounded by intellectual, opinionated, creative people who are aware of their surroundings and society. I've featured and mentioned a friend of mine, RipMC numerous times here on GoldenSense. He's a poet, rapper, author, and an event planner. Rip reached out to me to participate in promoting his event entitled "Rap Session," It was free event that consisted of an open discussion, and open mic for anyone to showcase their talent. The night was filled with good vibes from beginning to end. We dug deep and spoke on topics such as Occupy Wall Street, and how the Internet is changing human interaction. Our discussion about the internet changing human interaction was perfectly followed by Rip's co-host Marshall "Soulful" Jones spitting a poem entitled "TouchScreen." My jaw dropped due to the perfection of chosen words of metaphors and similes, and his performance just as a whole. It was incredible, I do recommend you to hit up YouTube to watch or Click Here! Overall Laughs were shared, music was played, thoughts were expressed and my friend Kai and I was even on the verge of crying at some points through the night, I learned a lot and I couldn't ask for a better appreciated ending of my day. -sabla`

If you didn't know by now, I love Hip-Hop so much and I respect the craft of rapping, that's why I can't stand when I hear people like Soulja Boy or Waka Flaka call themselves creating Hip-Hop. When the time came for the open mic portion of the night Charles who's stage name is Cash took center with his guitar and performed what he says is one of his "most passionate pieces" called "Flaws." I personally have not seen any rapper perform with a guitar since Lauryn Hill so that made me so much more infatuated by his music and the song was beautiful, I totally understood why he would call it one of his most passionate pieces due to the lyrics. Look and listen to "Flaws" for yourself HERE. By the way Cash will be releasing an album on the 10th of December entitled "Cash is Already Dead, The Life Tape" look out for it.

Inspiration: Menswear

In a previous post of mine I've expressed my unconsciousn adaptation to menswear. I must say that the style exhibited here does inspire me a great deal and I love the clean cut, professional, but still comes off as casual look on men. Photos featured are from some of my favorite male blogger such as Joshua Kissi & Travis Gumbs of Street Etiquette, Kadeem Johnson of Kjohnlasoul, and Spencer Edwards of Proprpostur just to name my top three. I've been following their blogs for about more than two years now. The way these men ensemble their looks is just.... "Sharp!" I don't know how else to put it (That's something my mother would say). My mother recently went on a cleaning spree and she attacked the "closet no one ever opens." It's one of those closest that you will only see cracked open every few years. I knew her collection of vinyls was stacked on a shelf in the closet and I've been dying to look through them and I finally got the chance. I have a fascination with old music especially Hip Hop from the birth of it to the 90's. I must say my mother has a great taste in music, while looking through her vinyls I came across some icons of Hip Hop. The two I have featured in this post is Slick Rick & Public Enemy. Slick Rick raps so smooth and takes you on a journey through his lyrics, and Public Enemy were activist who did not sugarcoat their problems with society in their lyrics.

(Sabla) I love how unconventional your blog images are. Why did you choose to create them that way?
(Magnet) Well, I didn't really choose to create them that way, I've been using photoshop for years and I like experimenting. It's not easy for me to just leave photos as they are once I have them open in photoshop. I guess my blog images are like an extremely quick, reserved and minimal version of what my design style has become.

(Sabla) Name a song that you feel most connected to & Why do you feel so connected?
(Magnet) Wow, that's not an easy question to answer, to be honest, I have no idea... I wouldn't say that there is one song that I feel particularly connected to. Most of the music I listen to seems to be about some sort of relationship problem or has extremely random lyrics and I always seem to notice the lyrics. When I was younger and was in love with my boyfriend while he had a crush on some other (bimbo) girl, I seemed to be able to relate to depressing music by Muse a lot. Right now, I'm not sure though. I have been listening to a lot of Interpol this year though, maybe I subconsciously relate to their music on some level for some reason.

(Sabla) Define your style.
(Magnet) Another difficult question to answer. My boyfriend says sophisticated but edgy and eye-catching but not attention-seeking. I would say it's like a nerdy school girl that likes original 70s - 80s punk music.

(Sabla) What's your favorite item to wear currently?
(Magnet) Hmm wedges, flatforms, full skirts and chokers/collar necklaces.

(Sabla) What is your biggest goal in life?
(Magnet) To be loaded and afford a huge collection of awesome shoes xD More seriously, I guess my 'biggest' goal is to achieve everything I can and not let opportunities slip away.

Just a few days ago I was featured on Riamichelle.com in the streetstyle section.

In September during fashion week I attended the Teen Vogue Haute Spot which spanned as long as fashion week itself (sept.8-sept.15). Everyday that I would stop by Lincoln center I would run into Ria leading us to hang out for a few days before her departure back to her hometown of Florida. Despite our age difference, me being 17 and Ria being 24 no awkwardness took place, I honestly learned a lot from her. I'm constantly on the Internet in search of something new from, photographs, blogs, websites, stores, and best of all MUSIC! I can spend hours searching, listening, and downloading music. In particular, I enjoy an the in depth search of underground/ local artist because I appreciate the "rawness of their grind." As opposed to artist in the industry such as Kanye for example, they've made it to the peak of stardom already because of their music, and he knows how good he is, mind you the millions of fans he must have. (myself included) He's not grinding for recognition as hard as artist who names does not hit the mainstream line. I'm the girl who knows, listens to, and recognize the underground / local artist (if they're good).

I recently started listening to singer Muhsinah pronounced [mu•sē•nə] a few months ago but recently downloaded her most Recent EP Gone which features 6 tracks. Of her 6 tracks is her song "Till I'm Gone" which if one of my favorites because of her gripping refreshing vocals with the sick techno / pop beat, yet to me it has this hidden R&B feel. This song's upbeat tone takes me back to my young self who watched TV of the house parties that had the cool singer and/or band playing in the living room. (hahah, scenes like those made me want to hurry up to be a teenager.)

My femininity is progressively lowering.

I use to be the girl in middle school who always looked in the mirror, always had to have a skirt on, always rejected wearing a book bag, I would rather carry a purse. That girl is no longer present, she left maybe somewhere in the middle of my Sophomore year in High School. I always had a love for sports which increased when I began playing 3 sports, I'm aggressive, I tell it like it is, and now my style is reflecting a masculine persona. I love the way I dress, just sometimes I'm shocked at how I walk out the house because I look back at how I use to dress, and change has definitely occurred. Also unconsciously, I noticed that I'm assembling outfits with this male flare that I commonly see in male bloggers such as Joshua Kissi & Travis Gumbs of Street Etiquette, Spencer Edwards of Proprpostur, and Kadeem Johnson of KjohnLaSoul just to name a few. Don't get anything wrong I still like my purses, but now you would see me in a backpack often, I still like my skirts, they're more so full length as oppose to me wearing minis all the time, and I love heels & wedges, but I love to rock some cute ankle boots. I always felt like I was two people in one, now I just know I'm Sabla`, A little bit masculine yet I have my feminine spark.

Let me start off by these two look amazing and effortlessly chic. Katherine's masculine attire with the obvious beautiful feminine touch was done well and fit her perfectly. I'm a sucker for blazers especially bold ones, I've been dying for a mustard color blazer just like the one she's wearing, the color is beautiful. Her American Apparel blue clutch made an even more great pop of color to the look.

If anyone can state something so perfect and relateable to my life it would be RipMC. I'm not very good with words nor expressing my self well with them to make it more understandable to others, but his words were just so clear and perfect. I noticed something about me lately and it's the fact that my patience is running low for the small things such as waiting in line, or crossing a street, or learning something new in class. I think it's because I've grown into a artist / designer in a different degree then I once was. Time is something I can never get back so why waste it when I can be exercising my talent, my passion, using that time to think and create. That's all I've been wanting to do every single day, doing something that sparks thoughts, makes me happy, makes me productive and people tell me be patient with this and with that but no. I have amazing patience, what I cannot stand is wasting time, Its my number one pet peeve of mine. Wasting time is all that I've been doing nowadays and It's time for me to actually look at how Im wasting my time, and just simply stop.

Discovering good music is so amazing, I think we tend to forget the feeling that springs up in us when a new good song plays for the first time, it's an indescribable feeling I distinctively get only from music. I don't remember the first song I listened to by Jesse Boykins III but oddly I do remember the impactful feeling, I've been hooked on every song since. I've done previous post on Jesse and have had his music featured multiple times here on GoldenSense, I even gladly met him on two occasions. He's sweet, humble, clearly passionate for what he does and it shines through his music and personality. I was so upset when I made my way to the Apollo Theater this past week to buy a ticket for his show and I got hit with the "IT'S SOLD OUT" Then the ticket women had the nerve to offer me another show. No, I was there for Jesse only. I congratulate him for a sold out show but that audience was missing me, hah.

October 22nd, 2011: Being in the Conde` Nast building that all of the work of Teen Vogue occurs & VOGUE! itself occurs was so surreal even though its my second time being there. Teen Vogue Fashion University was amazing as it always is and always will be. I plan to attend for as many years as I can. I love to be around people who has the same love, passion, and drive as I do and to interact and speak & listen to the ones who has achieved where I hope to be one day. Designers, Editors... Simply great, I have a load of notes compacted in my journal from this amazing long Saturday. I did not catch a photo or attended her Seminar but I bumped into Betsey Johnson and I was insanely starstrucked. She waved at me which snapped me out of my stunned stare.

Friday, October 21st was the kickoff night of Teen Vogue Fashion University (TVFU) with a personal shopping event at H&M exclusively for TVFU Students. The night composed of a food, drinks, feather hair extension applications, Live DJ, live performance by band Viva Brother, and 25% discount on everything throughout the whole night. Everyone came dressed to impress and I was sure to have a camera to document it all. Lines for the fitting room and for check out stretched as far as it possibly could; the crowd was massive yet fun. I surely took advantage of that that 25% off discouTeen Vogue buttered us up with shopping but much more fun & free stuff were awaiting us the next day. Here's some scenery shots from the night.

When I got to 5th ave's H&M in midtown I was carrying THREE bags. Just coming from a volleyball game I had my backpack, my bookbag, and my camera bag on. Something I should of posted in September but I didn't so here it is. Over the summer when the applications were released to apply to Teen Vogue Fashion University. There was no hesitating in my mind and YES I got accepted! I attended this 3 day event of shopping, free stuff, designers, industry insider tips, footsteps in the Conde Nast / Teen Vogue offices last year. I had knowledge of Teen Vogue Fashion U since I was 13 years old and because of the age minimum being 16 years old I couldn't wait till the 1-6. It was worth the wait. After my first attendance, OF COURSE I planned to attend until I'm 24 years old. (the age maximum to attend). I will never pass up opportunities like this. I cannot wait till Saturday morning. I hope I get enough sleep because stress and lack of sleep is what I'm amongst right now. Love Teen Vogue.

I'm about more than a month late with this post but it was due to my friend Shaquille having all the photos I took the night of Fashion's Night Out and taking very long with giving me the photos... anyways, that's beside the point :) moving on.

Sept 8th was Fashion's Nigh Out, the kickoff to Fashion week as well as the first day of my senior year in high school (class of 2012 ^^). After school before heading out to Soho for FNO a few friends of mine made out way to Teen Vogue Haute Spot located in Lincoln Center for a book signing from the editor and chief Amy Astley. I adore teen vogue, I've been a reader since 2007 so of course I was extra excited to meet the women responsible the magazine I read all the time. When she walked into the haute spot my heart honestly dropped, people of the magazine & fashion industry are my celebrities. While getting my book signed Ms. Astley and I had the longest conversation and she recognized me from an event I attended last October Teen Vogue Fashion University. We had the line waiting because of the length of our conversation but i really did not care. After speaking to her she introduced me to Eva Chen, the beauty director of Teen Vogue and from there we exchanged emails. Being the Teen Vogue enthusiast I dragged my friends to the Teen Vogue Block Party which was fun but we ended up leaving early to catch everything else that was going on in Soho. some thoughts inspired by my previous post on Street Etiquette | Sartorial Sounds:"Take off your cool" song.

Every generation of teens has been rapped up in this "being cool" act which goes hand in hand with "fitting in". We worry about how to acquire it and how to maintain it, especially who we're impressing with it. I personally feel this "being cool' act alters the soul without ones own self noticing. Today the "cool" act streams from the internet, especially TUMBLR. People strive for having the best edited photo, taken with the best camera just so they can attain the most re-blogs etc. There's nothing wrong with that to a certain extent though, I have some photos of myself floating around because of the reblog button on tumblr but then you begin to become just a photo. There's more to me and I'm sure more to others than just their pretty face and well put together outfit. People are screaming "I love her/him" because of photos and you know nothing about them. I know some people who have others flock toward them just because of the way they look and automatically gets praised for being "cool." But, that person can barely hold a decent conversation, has no self respect, and is extremely disloyal, but remember they're praised for being "cool." I don't like to feed into that hype at all and that's why I entitled the post "take off your cool, i want to see you" because it's honestly a statement I stand by. I don't care about what you're wearing, I don't care about how many followers you have on tumblr, I don't care about the numerous amount of haters you have I care to see who YOU are. A simple, what do you do on your spare time, what's your favorite music, your talents, your interest. The simple questions that gives me a sense of who you are.

I want to see how good of a person you are first before anything, so take off the cool.

Monday afternoon while looking for a dress for an event I have to attend this upcoming week, I decided to make a trip to the thrift shop with the little money I had (that i should have not spent)... but while I was on my way out the store I took one last look at the rack of sweaters and picked this beautiful sucker up. I read the shirt, saw the image and with no second thoughts, bought it. No regrets present at all. Of course I wore it today :)

I LOVE THIS SWEATSHIRT SO MUCH BECAUSE I FEEL IT CAN BE INTERPRETED IN SO MANY WAYS. THERE'S NO ONE MEANING BEHIND IT.

I am happy Beyonce put out a music video for "countdown" because its my favorite song off the "4" album. I love the that shes embracing the 1960's in her video hence the fact that 1960's was a time of the "baby boom" era. I don't know if anyone realized that. I love when she gets to the number "3" in her chorus because its subliminally states her JayZ's creating a family. I found this song so beautiful.

Despite some people's disappointment in the video because it doesn't compare to what she has done before can people realize that there is such thing as variety & versatility and the fact that the women is pregnant!!! The video effects over exaggerated her dance moves in a tasteful way so I'm pretty sure Beyonce wasn't going to crazy with her amazing dance moves.

so heres a story to tell. I'm an employee of American Apparel as well as my best friend. My best friend is insanely, incredibly in love with Beyonce, she undoubtedly had a great effect on his life. Long/sad story short, Beyonce and her team walked into my friend's store and bought a whole bunch of stuff of course and using my common sense I see A LOT of American Apparel in this video. All the colors of chiffon button downs is featured here in Countdown. My friend came to work 15 minutes after Beyonce left :( Luckily his coworkers know and love him so much, they were sure to share with Beyonce that one of her biggest fans is an employee of the store. -sabla`

I Love art in all forms but art that I can see with my eyes and is created by someone's hands if its digitally or with a pencil & paper I truly love it. (Maybe because I'm an artist myself.)

Everything on Tumblr is random because of that "reblog" button, so you never know what will pop up on your tumblr dashboard. You know what to expect depending on who you follow. I follow a lot of "artistic" people in my opinion. I refrain from the tumblrs that compose of mainstream content such as ones that feature "cute" guys with snapbacks, Nicki Minaj, girls & guys in their jordans etc.

... To get to the point of this post, I came across this art-piece and I had to find the source of it immediately. I have not gotten the female artist name at all but I probably have all of the sites she host that displays her artwork. Her work is so unique, inspiring, and just damn amazing in my eyes. I love when I hear new music especially if it's coming from Jesse Boykins III. A sampler freestyle, Change of Heart features the voices of MeLo-X, Jesse Boykins III, MoRuf, & Chris Turner. Anytime when a spoken word is intertwined into a song makes the music so much more amazing to me, and brings a more personal feel. Jesse B. promotes and often recites that, "We Are The Reawakening Of The Romantic Movement" and that couldn't be anything less than true. I wasn't too familiar with Chris Turner but his voice is amazing, the way his voice and Jesse's mixed was so perfect. It won't be too long from now when I will catch my hour long train rides listening to Chris Turner.

"Passion over Purpose?"

The word "passion" became a much more deeper term to me after I looking through Andre` Wagner's Passion Project. His project redefined my simple definition of passion and made me realize how important passion actually is to me. I came across a tweet by someone that read "Passion over Purpose." That statement made me think. I agreed with the statement but then I questioned it, doesn't passion and purpose go hand in hand at one point? If you're so passionate about something don't you make it your purpose to perform/accomplish whatever the thing is that you're passionate about? I tend to feel that I'm passionate about too many things, but I've grown to accept that I'm a girl with multiple components, that's the way I look at it. My passions ALWAYS have a purpose and I guess it's to bring about my HAPPINESS.

PASSION: passion & love are 2 terms that aren't too different in feelings. passion has different stages to it and love is amongst those stages & vice-versa. passion is somewhat an "inspiration," the fuel to my ambition. If passion did not exist in my life I would not be the over achieving 17 year old girl I am today, I don't know what kind of person I would be. when you lack passion you lack life. I'm asked one word to describe myself,

soul, romance, jazz, smooth, timeless are the words that come to my mind when I think of the talented Jesse Boykins III's music. For anyone who knows me, his music is all that I listen to right now. His music has gave me a feeling that I have not felt in a very long time, its numbing, of course in a good way. It helps me block out all the bad and it honestly calms me down. I recently went to Jesse Boykins III & The Beauty Created's show on the 19th at the Highline Ballroom with my friend Aliyah, my breath was taken away. I always listen to his music on my iphone or have it blasting in my room but to hear it performed in person was incredible and breath taking. The band was magnifent, the way they mastered their instruments sent chills down my spine. Golden Rant Session vol. I: AMERICA

I have moments when I become really disgusted with the fact that I live in this place we call the USA, a place built on stealing, murder, lies, & discrimination... but along with myself and others we don't want to leave. I agree that America has great opportunities and so much freedom, i really don't want to live any place else. America also has good intentions when it comes to involement in foreign affairs but lives were and are lost for those good intentions all the time. America sends troops over to fight "for the country" to kill people "for the country." "One Nation Under God"? AMERICA AND OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD IS A HUGE CONTRADICTION. They want to feed society with the bible, reading to us what we shall not do, but they're doing IT ALL!! and they've been doing it since forever. America puts people to death because of murders they commit, but former President Truman committed mass murder to multiple innocent lives, counting way over 200,000 lives lost in Japan when he ordered to drop the Atomic Bomb with no sympathy or thought in it whatsoever. Did America put him to death? Of course not but do you see the contradiction? Even my thoughts compared to my other thoughts is a contradiction. I question myself, more then I question the world. I don't think America stands by all that it preaches but what can lil o'l me do about it. I'm confused on the complexity of America, of the world, of humans, of me. Im stumped on this complex dysfunctional thing we call life. I rant a little much on subjects like these -sabla`

A Snippet of my Fashion Week Experience.

I haven't been posting in awhile because of school and all the other loads of stuff I've been doing lately. Last week marked the end of Fashion Week and the end of the Teen Vogue Haute Spot. The end of it all made me shockingly, unusually sad. All the fun that occurred between Fashion's Night Out and September 15th will only be in photos and my memory, and it was such an amazing eye opening experience. I don't have access to all the photos I've taken, so here's a snippet of what I have to share.

This girl right beside me Carolina G. has been there for me since 2009, as a friend, mentor, softball captain, inspirational speaker, and then some. I love her so much and she truly inspires me. That day was amazing with her.

One of the amazing people I met while spending my time at Lincoln Center was Ria Michelle. I met her on the kickoff day of Fashion Week, Fashion's Night Out at the Teen Vogue Haute Spot. Ria host her own website http://riamichelle.com/. It's more than a website to her, she calls it her "Fashion Diary." Since I met her I've been honestly hitting up her site constantly. Besides from her website shes a stylist, and owner of her own online boutique FilthyMagic (Go shop!!!) I can truly say meeting Ria has inspired and fueled more to my ambition towards what I want to do in my career path. She's real, true, and ambitious girl, I saw that clearly with the short amount of time I spent with her. I often learn about some people through the internet and there's only so much you can know from a few photos and words, Im glad I had the chance to meet Ria.

Just thought I share the fact that I met designer Jill Stuart. She was sweet, and so inspirational. She stopped by the Teen Vogue Haute spot to speak to us and show us a screening of her new spring collection. She came right from the show to the Haute Spot. Check out her Spring 2012 Collection. THE SHOES WERE AMAZING.

I follow Jesse on twitter and I couldnt help but notice his constant use of the word "schwaza."
I googled the word and found the meaning of the word on his website as well as Urbandictionary.com (lol)
