Meet: Spencer Edwards of Proprpostur.com

Before I officially started my own blog I would constantly indulge in other blogs, I still do till this day, I have my daily blog checks. The odd thing about me is, I don't pay visit to a lot of fashion blogs that are targeted toward women, theres only a few, but menswear blogs are a different story. Menswear blogs are my favorite. Among the many menswear blogs I visit, Spencer Edwards of Proprpostur.com has to be among the top I've been paying visits to through my years in the blogging world. The way he plays with colors, patterns, and textures all in this very tailored fit is something you don't see in men too often, especially black men. He steps foot in fashion territories many are scared to step foot into or better yet can't even pull off. With that said, check out the Q&A with the man behind Proprpostur himself, Spencer Edwards.

How old are you and where do you live?
23 and I live in Montreal, Canada

Besides running the amazing Proprpostur, what else do you do?
I’m also a fashion marketing student and part time style and marketing consultant.

Event || The Strivers Row, Homecoming

The collective of poets that make up The Strivers Row has never failed to amaze and captivate me. Joshua Bennett, Carvens Lissaint, Jasmine Mans, Miles Hodge, Alysia Harris, and the newest members, Zora Howard, and singer, Jennah Bell. Back in January at The Strivers Row Winter NYC Show they introduced Zora and Jennah as the new additions to the row, this time around at the Summer NYC show another new addition was introduced, a harpist of the name Brandee Younger. Shes known for her ability to feature her instrument, the harp in genres where you would never guess a harp could be incorporated. I love the growth of the Row and how diverse it is, it's not only Poetry, music is incorporated. It only makes sense, poetry and music are something like soul mates.

My first experience personally with the Row was at their winter show in January that I did a post on here. I left that night extremely stuck on the amazing talent these individuals possess. Ever since then I promised myself that I will try my hardest to make any show the row is apart of within my perimeters.
Be Sure To Visit The Strivers Row Youtube Channel to watch videos of all past performances.

This poem had me on the verge of tears, I think if he would've went on any longer I would've started full on crying.

. . . progressing vol. II || New Chapter

I've been a MIA on my blog due to my summer program I took part in with the school I will be attending in the fall, Parsons. I don't know if the word Intense describes what I was going through for 6 weeks it's justice. I'm very grateful for it all though because it prepared me for what's coming this fall. I'm officially a college design student! I'm so fu%*ing excited for what my future holds, anyways, what I wrote below was something I typed up in my drafts as I transitioned from high school life to my college summer classes. I was a bit emotional. This post is personal and reminds me so much of a post I did in January entitled progressing hence the title of this post.

I am reaching this point within myself which is sort of scaring me and just a tad bit exciting for me at the same time. Change is inevitable, I do not mind changes occurring in my own life but drastic changes is a very different story. The moment where I can feel myself growing and evolving is such a gratifying moment but honestly brings me worry. I'm entering this new chapter of my life and this new chapter is honestly very different from my last. I'm entering college, where I'm basically in training to transfer my passion into a profession, I don't want no distractions and right now I'm beginning to see some things and honestly some people as a distraction to me reaching my goals. I want to start new. I need to eliminate the negatives and keep and bring forth the positives weather it's people, objects, feelings and so on. This new chapter of mine is beyond my attendance at Parsons, Its most importantly about the birth of this new Sabla` I'm yearning for more, this clean slate, and I know its approaching, I might just be here this very moment.

Paint & Poetry Vol 7.

Oh Paint & Poetry how I've missed you.
If you haven't noticed about every month I do a post on this event called Paint  & Poetry that I attend. Paint & Poetry is a monthly event created by Mojo Disco, hosted by Cristal J. and Nigel G where amazing art is displayed and produced on the spot, and of course some real great poets come out and show what they're about. Well I've been to every Paint & Poetry that was held since it started back in January of this year. The last time I posted on P&P was in May and that was the last time I was there. Missing two P&P was a bit out of my character but I made my way back in July. The next Paint & Poetry will be going down this month on Sunday, August 19th and it's free admission and this one is a bit special, Mojo got a lil something different up his sleeve for this one. If you interested in coming (which you should be) RSVP here. Also if you're a poet, rapper, singer, ARTIST! and you're Interested in being a feature or having your artwork featured in next month's Paint & Poetry email

Current Music Obsessions.

It's been hell of while since I've been posting but I'll touch base on that probably by the next post. For a while I had a few music post building up and waiting in my drafts so it was only right to put them all together in one post. I'm always seeking for some new tunes to bump to and lately my ears have been enjoying . . . .
Jesse Boykins X Melo X "Black Orpheus
Singer Jesse Boykins III & DJ/Emcee/Producer MeLo X finally released "Black Orpheus" a single from their collaborative album Zulu Guru set to be release on October 15th (you don't understand how long I've been waiting for that to drop.) Black Orpheus's beat automatically draws you in with the way Afta-1 intertwined the Electronic Soul, Afro-Beat, and West Indian influence creates a track so beautiful and well blended. A Jesse Boykins & Melo-X collab never disappoints. Don't think Zulu Guru only consist of Jesse & MeLo, the collaborative album is also featuring rapper Moruf, singers Chris Turner and Mara Hruby, and spoken words artist Kesed, Joekenneth Maseau, and Trae Harris.

Iman Omari X Moruf "The Path"
I've been a huge fan of Moruf ever since his album "Garden State of Mind" which I still bump to almost everyday so when I found out Moruf was dropping a new mixtape entitled "Euphoria" with Iman Omari I was hella excited. I never even heard of Iman Omari and I'm so glad I know of him now because I really like his style of music. The mixtape Euphoria is described as "Good vibes all around" and indeed it is, the blend between Iman and Moruf was very unexpectant but what was delivered was beautiful effortless music.

Toro Y Moi |x| Tyler The Creator "Hey You"
I would have never thought that Toro Y Moi and Tyler the Creator could pull off a song. With Toro Y Moi's chillwave, funk style and Tyler the Creator hardcore, brutal rhymes is what put me in shock mode when I heard this new track "Hey You." I find the beat really fascinating because its a perfect mesh of both artist style of music and Tyler toned it down a lot without loosing his aesthetic. What I actually just found out about this track is, that its not finished! Somehow it got leaked early, maybe that explains why Toro's vocals aren't even featured yet.
Joey Bada$$ "Hardknock"
The fact that I overlooked this mixtape more than once killed me because when I finally listened to it I was so impressed by this 17 year old rapper and by the end of taking a listen to the whole mixtape it had me screaming Thank You! I'm so sick of the trash music that's streaming on the radio and then the nerve to call it Hip Hop is annoying. Joey Bada$$ is raw, no gimmick, and is straight Hip Hop. Download this Mixtape 1999 for free here.
Frank Ocean "Sierra Leon"
Last but surely not least Mr. Frank Ocean and Channel Orange. The day after I downloaded Channel Orange, Sierra Leon already had around 80+ plays. Channel Orange. I look at Frank Ocean as this natural talent and Channel Orange displays how effortlessly amazing his music is. What makes Frank and his music so great is that it doesn't fit any genre but it's own, its incomparable, and unique.
